We had a fantastic time celebrating aspirations week.
We kicked off the celebrations with a visit from British and Jamaican sprinter and bobsledder Joel Fearon. He led a circuit activity for the children, which they all thoroughly enjoyed, and the sponsorship money raised will go towards new sporting equipment for the school.
Joel has had an incredible career as a GB athlete. After beginning his training with the bobsleigh team in 2011, he helped Great Britain win their first four-man World cup medal in 16 years just two years later. He also became the seventh British athlete to run 100m in under 10 seconds. It was an incredible opportunity for the children to speak to Joel about his journey in sports and participate in a session led by a professional athlete.
We also welcomed the East Midlands Ambulance service, giving the children the chance to experience a day in the life of a paramedic. We explored all the different compartments, sat in the driver’s seat, took part in first-aid role-play activities, tried on the uniform and asked the paramedics questions about their job and career journeys. It was a fun and informative experience for the children, one which inspired some of them to think about a possible career in the ambulance service.
We ended the week by inviting the children to come into school dressed up as what they want to be when they grow up. We saw race car drivers, chefs, firemen, doctors, builders and even a few princesses.
It was a wonderful week celebrating the children’s ambitions and aspirations for the future.
