We are extremely proud and delighted to this week receive our WE Schools award in recognition of our hard work and dedication to social action this academic year.
WE Schools is an innovative series of experiential social action programmes that engage teachers and young people globally to empower them with the skills, knowledge and motivation to bring positive change in themselves and the world.
During the past year we have taken part in a community litter pick, organised a fundraiser for the local night shelter, set up our own Eco team, been on an aspirations trip to the University of Nottingham, and were lucky enough to attend the WE day event in Nottingham. This inspirational event gave us the opportunity to hear from social activists who have brought about positive change for themselves, their schools, their communities, the country and beyond.
We have many further exciting plans around social action for the new academic year including planning and building our own fruit and vegetable area with the help of our local councillor Marion Bradshaw.
Over the past few years, we have expanded our pupil leadership teams to incorporate class councillors, mental health ambassadors, peer mentors, sports leaders, the diversity committee and the Eco team. Being a pupil leader instills confidence in our children, empowering them to solve problems creatively, work in a team, and work collaboratively with others. Leadership gives children many opportunities to develop responsibility.
If your child is interested in being a pupil leader in September, there will be advertisements around the academy about how to get involved.
Well done everyone involved in this brilliant achievement!
