Wainwright Primary Academy are celebrating a special milestone — our 70th birthday!
The school community is coming together to mark this significant occasion, honouring both the academy’s long history and its namesake, Ethel Wainwright.
To celebrate, we are holding ‘Ethel Wainwright day’, a day filled with exciting activities that give our pupils a chance to learn about the woman behind our school’s name. Ethel Wainwright is an important figure in the local Mansfield community, known for her dedication to improving education for children in the area.
Throughout the day, children will look back at what school life was like in different decades since the academy first opened its doors in 1953. There will be fun lessons and activities designed to help children connect with the school’s rich history while reflecting on how education has changed over the years.
Principal, Carly Ripley, shares her thoughts on why Ethel remains such an important figure for the academy: “We take great pride in celebrating our connection to Ethel Wainwright. Within the academy, we want the children to learn about inspirational people whose lives have had an impact on modern Britain and the wider world. Ethel Wainwright is a shining example of such an individual.
Each year, we celebrate ‘Ethel Wainwright day’ as part of our commitment to curriculum enrichment, giving our pupils the chance to learn about this exceptional woman’s life and her contributions to education in Mansfield. With this year marking the academy’s 70th birthday, the celebration will be even more special.”
