The academy was recently delighted to be chosen to be selected for 55 free places to the Wonder Day at the University of Nottingham. Mrs Hallam led the group of excited pupils and their families as they spent last Saturday exploring the campus and immersing themselves in ‘University life’. They all had the opportunity to experience ground-breaking research and world class teaching first-hand by taking part in a huge variety of family-friendly activities. The children were able to play the roles of scientists, researchers, surgeons, vets and much much more, inspiring their minds and giving them an insight into potential future careers possible by attending university.

This year the Wonder Day celebrated the year of the periodic table, with many of the Wonder activities featuring chemical elements. Our group were also honoured to meet the university’s very own Professor Sir Martyn Poliakoff, famous for his periodic table of videos.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day, ending with an afternoon tea and opportunity for the children to make their very own graduation cap and scroll. A really inspiring and aspirational day for our pupils and their families – we hope this has provided some food for thought and sparked curiosity in STEM related careers!
